Project Description

  • Construction completed 2001, $5.6M budget.
  • 57,000 SF new construction; including 22 new classrooms; art, music, computer and resource spaces; media center, gymnasium, multi-purpose room, kitchen, and administrative offices.
  • 10,000 SF renovation of four existing buildings to meet accessibility standards and to include fire alarm and communication systems.
  • Complete reorganization of campus to redirect pedestrian and vehicular traffic for student safety.
  • Scope of work included complete campus master plan.
  • Design process included significant input from, and communication with the Mars Hill community, and from schoolteachers and administrators.
  • By combining a new middle school with an existing elementary school, the new Mars Hill School will alleviate overcrowding as well as provide a new school for middle school aged children residing in the eastern section of Madison County.
  • The design utilizes a pre-engineered steel framing system to reduce construction time. Design includes standing seam metal roof with 20 year warranty, pre-finished metal panels, split-face concrete block and thermally broken insulated windows.
